Oct 18th:Wags & Whines

Well, we survived the crappy hotel. We got up early, showered and Ubered to the airport for the less money and hassle than the shuttle bus. Don’t get me started. We checked in and hung out in the Qantas lounge. I went down and bought some stuff for the office. They had pretty good coffee.Continue reading “Oct 18th:Wags & Whines”

Oct 17th: Final Swim

Today was our last day in the Barn and Daintree forest. We had to leave around 11 to make it down to Cairns for our flight to Brisbane. We did the usual: coffee, breakfast, swim. As I was swimming around I said to Susanne “wow, we never saw the monitor lizard again after the firstContinue reading “Oct 17th: Final Swim”

Oct 15th: Cassowary! Cassowary!

I hate to sound like a broken record, but we got up, lounged, had coffee and swam in the pool. Hard to beat that. It was much hotter today, though, and I ended up in the pool twice before 10 am. We scheduled a horse back ride at Cape Tribulation at 11. It was aboutContinue reading “Oct 15th: Cassowary! Cassowary!”

Oct 14th: Logodiles

I slept well last night and it is just amazing to wake up and see the view of the ocean from the master bedroom. We lounged around and drank coffee and took in the view. I love listening to the birds in the morning. They have such unique and at times haunting songs. There isContinue reading “Oct 14th: Logodiles”

Oct 14th: No Regrets?

Life is full of ups and downs. There are decisions that we make that work out well and some that just turn into a unmitigated disaster. I hear people use the phrase “Have no regrets” all the time and I have to say I absolutely despise the saying. For one thing, if you never haveContinue reading “Oct 14th: No Regrets?”

Oct 13th: The Barn

We both slept well and it was nice to be off the boat, clean of salt water, and in a relatively comfortable room. My knees were sore from all the diving and my poor feet were a mess from the crappy fins. I always take my own mask when I go diving or snorkeling becauseContinue reading “Oct 13th: The Barn”

Oct 12th: Bommie Madness

Today was our last day on the dive trip and it started with a 5:45 wake-up knock. After a conversation/argument with Nicky (one of the dive masters) at dinner last night about whether you get a shorter time before you can fly if you dive on Nitrox (I lost), Jason and Cynthia decided not toContinue reading “Oct 12th: Bommie Madness”

Oct 11: Giant Clam

I survived the middle of the night advanced yoga class with out killing either myself or Susanne. Let’s put that in the serious plus category. All in all we slept pretty well in our cozy little cabin. It was pretty comfy, dark and cool. All good things. We got up at 6:30 am to getContinue reading “Oct 11: Giant Clam”

Oct 9th: Paperwork

This was our last day in the wonderful house in Trinity Beach. We had breakfast and lounged about. I went for a swim in the morning and then sat outside in the shade area and read my book, napped, read, swam. Stressful stuff. We had lunch.  We swam. We lounged. We decided that we wouldContinue reading “Oct 9th: Paperwork”

Oct 8th: Scatted

We had big plans for the day. Well, not really. They consisted of lounging around the pool, hanging out, reading, and relaxing until we had to head up to Daintree for a wildlife cruise on the Daintree river. It was very relaxing. I started reading “Factfulness” by Hans Rosling. He has some great TED talksContinue reading “Oct 8th: Scatted”
