T minus 3

Susanne and I have been madly packing up all weekend. It really does take a lot of planning to go away for a month…..plus we packed a lot of stuff to enjoy our Sprinter van experience. Camp chairs, blanket, scotch. Ok, so we didn’t pack lightly.

The good news on this trip, as compared to our New Zealand/Australia trip is that we really only have one flight. Hence the massive amount of stuff. Now the hard part is the wait until we get to leave. That is the problem with packing. Once you are done, you just want to go. Now I have to go to work for a couple of days. sigh.

I usually start planning and researching big trips months and months ahead of time. Reading travel blogs, flying around on Google Earth. Finding potential hikes, side trips, interesting sights and of course wineries. Some might call it a bit OCD, but I like to have the map of the area in my head before I go so I don’t have to think about it once I am there. My friend Don busted a gut when he saw the level of detail that I had put in my little travel book (below).

What I can I say, once a control freak, always a control freak. At least I am consistent.

Ciao for now.
